2019 BAC Western States Apprenticeship Contest
June 22nd, 2019 - Honolulu, Hawaii

This past weekend on April 13th, over a hundred people came to show support for the 34 apprentices that competed in Western Washington Masonry Trade’s annual apprenticeship contest.

As the tile industry strives to maintain quality and high standards, more job sites will start to require setters to have the ACT.

In order to keep our member more informed, we have started a texting program that is aimed to inform and educate. Members that opt-in to this program will be texted information on upcoming meetings in their area, and other pertinent information.

Since 2005 we have awarded 90 sons and daughters of our local members with scholarships totaling $135,500.00. We are now accepting applications for 2019.  Scholarship applications must be turned in by June 30, 2019.

On October 6th at the International Masonry Institute in Bowie, Maryland, the 2018 International Apprentice Contest was held with 81 contestants from 8 different crafts. We are proud of the 4 apprentices that represented BAC Local 2 W/I/M in 3 different crafts, and a big congratulations to Chris Ellis for placing 2nd in Tile. Our apprentices were:

Anthony Schurr (Brick)
Troy Snyder (Brick)
James Gauthier (PCC)
Christopher Ellis (Tile)

80 years and billions in union member's contributions have gone in to building the Registered Apprenticeship Program. The Industry Recognized Apprenticeship Program(IRAP) would undermine and wipe out the standards, oversight, and equal employment opportunities that we enjoy today.
